Fantastic Fall Recipes Featured ImageAs the weather cools down, you start relishing your time in the kitchen. Summer’s bounty was perfect for salads and other cool treats, but the fall’s fruits and vegetables will warm your heart and your body.

The following fantastic fall recipes were chosen because they make use of many of the fresh foods and flavours that we look forward to in this season. Cook up a few, and you’ll see what we mean.

Fantastic Fall Recipes Dill Pickle Roll Ups ImageDill Pickle Rollups

If you spent some time making pickles at the end of the summer, they’re probably ready to eat by now. Open up one of those jars, then use your very own pickles to create this fun dill pickle appetizer. Didn’t make your own pickles? No worries. Just buy some at the store. The rollups will still taste just as great.

Baked Apple Butter Ham and Cheese Sandwiches

You probably had your fair share of sandwiches during the summer months, but this one is sure to be your new fall favourite. Start by making your own apple butter from the apples you picked last weekend, then toast these sandwiches in the oven. The butter-dijon-Worcester sauce mixture spread on the top before cooking takes them to a whole different level. This recipe uses slider-sized rolls, so they’re a nice finger food for a party, but you can also use larger rolls if you want to make them a family meal.

Sweet Potato, Chickpea, and Red Lentil Soup

Whether you’re looking for a sweet side dish to go with your meal or a hearty main dish for your vegetarian friends, this delicious sweet potato, chickpea and red lentil soup fits the bill. The sweet potato gives you extra vitamins, while the fibre in the beans makes it a filling meal. Double the recipe because you’re going to want leftovers.

Oven-Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Bacon

Everyone hates Brussel sprouts, but that’s usually because they grew up eating them as an over-boiled, flavourless mush. These days, many are discovering that this formerly-shunned vegetable is actually delicious when prepared a different way, and you really can’t go wrong when you add bacon into the mix. The key to making it work is cutting the Brussel sprouts the right way. This recipe calls for cutting into halves or quarters, but shaving them with a mandolin slicer to use in this recipe can make them even more yummy for first-timers.

Fantastic Fall Recipes Instapot Roast ImageSunday Pot Roast (Pressure Cooker)

In the fall, we’re often so busy with activities that it’s hard to have a classic, home-cooked meal. That’s why we’ve decided to include this Instant Pot Sunday pot roast. By cooking it in the pressure cooker, you’ll never again have to worry about whether you have enough time to get a healthy meal on the table. Toss a quick salad while it’s cooking, and you’ll have a complete meal.

Black Bean, Butternut Squash, and Quinoa Chili

Lots of people are going vegetarian, but others still cling to their meat-eating ways. It’s a challenge to keep all of your party guests happy. This vegetarian chilli recipe includes in-season squash for flavour and quinoa for extra protein. Best of all, it’s designed for the slow cooker, so you hardly have to do any work at all. At your next party, prepare this recipe in one slow cooker and a more traditional chilli in another. Everyone’s happy.

Pumpkin Spice Krispie Treats

Are you all about the pumpkin spice flavour that’s so popular in the fall? Try out this unique twist on the classic marshmallow Krispie treat. It uses actual pumpkin in addition to pumpkin spice, so you can feel pretty good about handing these out to the kids in the neighbourhood. They won’t even know the treats are a healthier option to an old favourite.

Salted Caramel Apple Hand Pies

Did you pick too many apples at the U-Pick farm last weekend? Are you getting sick of making apple pies and apple crisp? This salted caramel apple hand pie recipe is a nice change from the more traditional styles, and since it makes single servings, it’s easy to limit how much you eat. If you want this to be a bit easier to make, try buying a pre-made crust from the store, and make the hand pies square or rectangular instead of cutting out circles. It will still have the same great taste.

As you can see, there are a lot of ways that you can incorporate the fresh flavours of fall into your life. We think that you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how delicious and nutritious all of our suggestions can be.
